GRADES:
I calculate grades on a cumulative points basis. Essays, homework,  and special projects are all combined to determine a student's grade. I do not curve or weight grades. I assign each assignment the number of points I believe it to be worth in relation to the other assignments.  I update grades on Aeries every four to six weeks.

HOMEWORK:
I assign 20 minutes to an hour per night.  I occasionally give students a homework- free evening or weekend, but such breaks are the exception rather than the rule. My web site (check the assignments link), the agenda planner, and each student's  list of study buddies allow you and your child to access homework assignments from home or school. If your child has utilized each of these resources and still does not understand that night's homework assignment, please ask your child to complete the assignment to the best of his/her ability. He/She will still earn the credit even if he/she misinterpreted the assignment.  Ignoring or not completing the assignment will result in a loss of points.  Regarding long term homework assignments, urge your child to begin assignments immediately, breaking large tasks into smaller, more manageable tasks which can be tackled in separate study periods.  In making students aware of these time management strategies, I hope to train them to take charge of their work. Procrastination causes stress. I do accept late homework  with a full grade deduction for each day the assignment is late.  Even if the assignment is late, the student should submit it.  Some points are better than no points!
