Brainstorming for personality/career tests.

A career that will make you happy will give both daily PLEASURE and personal MEANING.

a) List ten specific activities that gave you PLEASURE - what were specifically doing where you were smiling from ear to ear

b) List ten different specific activities that held significant MEANING for you - even if they weren't particulary pleasureable. These are causes that you feel passionate about - that you feel have a real purpose - that get you energized when you hear about, discuss, or act on.

Article - 'The Worst Mistake you can make on your Resume'

Examine your lists from Thursday; look for patterns.

a) FIND PATTERNS IN YOUR ANSWERS FROM MONDAY - Were you outside/inside? With people/alone? With supervision/only peers? With small/large groups? Working creatively or having a specific task?

Clearly, there won't be the same patterns in every example, but look for smaller repetitions.

What observations can you make about these patterns?

b) What might be careers that intersect you passions and your enjoyment?

Think creatively. If you enjoy being outdoors and feel passionate about medicine, you might conclude there's no connection. But how about a large animal vet or Doctors without Borders?

Possible Hooks:

1) anecdote

2) vivid descriptions

3) quote

4) surprising statement

5) general questions about the topic and possible approaches

6) defining terms

Then use a precis sentence(s) to show how the issue you've introduced is playing out. This sentence presents the issue at hand - the subject of your essay without your opinion. It is the issue that someone else might have a different opinion on than your thesis does.

End with your specific observation - that is, end with your thesis.

Final paper due My Turn' rubric
