Cool Solution From Mike Coy:
Heidi Mellander at EW gets the credit for bringing this to my attention.
Problem: A teacher wants to give a series of weekly tests throughout the year. Each test will have a different number of questions. The first one may have 25 questions and the second 32 and so forth. The teachers wants each test to have exactly the same value so that one test is not worth more toward the final grade than another. Both Making the Grade and Micrograde, give the teacher the ability to specify the number of items on the test and then the total points possible. For Example: Test 1 has 25 questions. The Teachers wants all tests to be worth 100 points. It could be any number, but for this example let’s use 100 points possible. MTG and MG have a feature that will do this.
How can Aeries duplicate the same result?
While Aeries doesn’t have the exact same feature, but the same result can be achieved. Here is how:
Create an assignment and call it Test 1. Make the Max Score 25. Correct the test like always using the 25 point scale. Enter the scores into Aeries. Next go to “Edit Assignments” and change the Max Score to 100 (see below)
Click on “Apply Changes” and a dialog box will appear and say “You have changed the Max Value for this assignment. What do you want to do about he scores?” You have the option to “Leave Alone” or “Adjust Proportionally.” Select “Adjust Proportionally”
A second box appears that says, “Would you like to add a comment about the change to the Assignment Score comment field?” Click “OK” and then be sure to click on “Apply Changes” in the edit assignment dialog box.
Aeries will recalculate all the scores based on the new 100 point max score and put a comment in the comment field that tells you the original score (25/25. 22/25 etc.)
See below:
NOTE: Be sure to wait until all your scores are entered before making the change. If you have to go back (after the conversion) and do a make-up score you will have to do the calculation by hand.
