
Back for her second year, Varsity head coach Kari Labeta is bringing a new life to the field hockey program. A graduate of Serra High School, Labeta went on to play for Central Michigan, becoming an All-American and receiving several awards for her exceptional performance on defense. She began her first year at Torrey in 1998 when she became the Junior Varsity field hockey coach. This year, under her direction, the Varsity team fought its way through the season, earning second place throughout the Palomar League and fourth place throughtout San Diego, the highest rankings Torrey Pines has held for over a decade. She is currently teaching in the English Department at Torrey Pines, and looks forward to next year, and another exciting season of hockey.

A Torrey Pines alumni, Kathy Fouts, has currently taken over as the Junior Varsity Field Hockey Coach. Upon graduating from Torrey, Fouts received a scholarship to play hockey for University California Berkeley where she proved herself a notable force on their offense. In addition to the basics, Fouts specialized in individual moves that could be used to beat ones opponent.

Lindsey Golden, a 1999 graduate of Torrey Pines, led TPs first Freshmen Hockey Team through an impressive season against other freshmen and JV teams. She is presently a sophomore attending UCSD.
