LA COSTA CANYON HIGH SCHOOL serves the northern portion of the SAN
DIEGUITO UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT, with students from the communities of Cardiff-by-the-Sea,
Encinitas, south La Costa, Leucadia, and Olivenhain.
LCC opened in 1996 to cope with the growth
in the northern part of the SDUHSD, basically replacing San Dieguito High School, which became San Dieguito
High School Academy.
LA
COSTA CANYON currently
competes in
the Avocado-West League. LCC’s natural
and traditional “rival” is its southern SDUHSD sister-school, Torrey
Pines High School (approximately 10 miles away), a rivalry that carries
over from the San Dieguito High School era. Other nearby schools include San Marcos High
School (approximately 3 miles away) of the Avocado East League, in the adjacent
San Marcos Unified School District to the north-east; and Carlsbad High School
(approximately 8 miles away) of the Avo-West, in the Carlsbad Unified School District to the
north. As half of LCC’s students are
residents of Encinitas, LCC does not consider CHS a “cross-town rival.”
