Helen Woodward Animal Center:  Help care for animals (primarily dogs, cats and horses).   Assist teachers in the Education Department, help instructors in the Therapeutic Horseback Riding program; clerical.
This agency usually requires volunteers to be at least 14 years of age.

Project Wildlife:  Care for injured and orphaned wildlife.   All training and supplies will be provided.  These agencies are located throughout San Diego.
A minimum of four hours per week is required.  Contact:  Lyn at 619-579-5083.

San Diego Coutny Historical Days Association:   Greeters are needed at Mason Street One-Room Schoolhouse, Old Town, on a one four hour shift per month.

San Diego Automotive Museum: Greeters are needed one day per week.

People for Trees:  Volunteers to help plant trees.  volunteers younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Site vary; two hours before noon on Saturdays is the planting time.  Contact Melanie at 619-234-8733.

Torrey Pines State Reserve:  Work parties are needed to assist in an effort to restore and protect the critical habitat of the Los Peñasquitos Marsh Natural Preserve and lagoon by removal of invasisve exotic vegetation.  Select a minimum time of 9a.m. until noon of every first Saturday or of every second Sunday of each month.

San Diego Council on Literacy:  This umbrella group refers volunteers to 24 literacy agencies throughout the county.  Tutors are needed to teach basic reading, writing and math skills to adults and children.   Tutors are also needed to teach English-as-a-second language.  Sites are throughout the county.  This agency requests a 3 hour per week, 3 month plus training commitment.  888-850-READ.

Rolling Readers:  A children's literacy program.   Tutors are needed to read to and help children.  This program focuses on various San Diego county schools.  A 3 hour training class and one hour per week commitment is required.  800-711-7323.
