PART I - Regular polygons

REVIEW:  Copy and fill in the following chart.

Name of Regular Polygon Number of Sides Measure of Each Angle Sum of measures of all angles
Triangle
Square
Pentagon
Hexagon
Octagon
N-gon

PART II - Tessellations

Go to this website about tessellations. Read the 2 pages on the site and answer the following questions.

1. What is a tessellation?

2. What polygons tessellate?

3. Name three things that must be true about every tessellation.

4. What is a semi-regular tessellation?

5. Explain the configuration of a vertex and draw an example.

6. How many degrees will each vertex add up to?

PART III - Symmetry

Read about symmetry in a plane.

1.  What are the four types of symmetry?  Define each.

2.  What do symmetries preserve?

3.  What does it mean for a pattern to be symmetric?

Consider the answers to problems 1-5 at the bottom of the page to test your understanding of symmetry.
