About Mrs. Schwartz

I grew up in Davis, California, and I liked it so much I earned not only my English degree (with a teaching emphasis and education minor) but also my master's in education at UC Davis (go Ags!)  However, after a few years of commuting for an hour to teach in Sacramento, I was very happy to move to San Diego and join the LCC community.

I enjoy reading (novels and poetry), creative writing, and helping my students!  You can learn some random facts about me below.

Did you know that Mrs. Schwartz...

once lived in London and traced the steps of her favorite British authors?
parla un po di l'italiana? (She traveled around Italy in the summer of 2005.)
has played Lady Macbeth, Lady Capulet, Rosalind, an Evil Stepmother, and a sheep (in Charlotte's Web!)?
once met her favorite living playwright, Top Stoppard?
grew up in the bicycle capital of the USA (Davis, CA: more bikes than people!)?
can recite "The Jabberwocky" (from when she learned it in 5th grade)?
organized student protests to stop the firing of teachers at her university?
has one daughter, born on Shakespeare's 423rd birthday on 4-23-07?
married an alumnus of La Costa Canyon?
taught at LCC for several years before upgrading to CCA?
wrote a 30-page thesis on Stoppard, romanticism, rationalism, and chaos theory?
wrote a 50-page thesis on education that was presented at an educational research seminar?
wrote a 58,000-word novel in the thirty days of November 2005?  (She never said a GOOD novel! She's still revising and editing...)
loves cheesy show tunes and Dave Matthews Band?  (Important Update: Mrs. Schwartz met half the members of DMB in August 2005! And there was much rejoicing throughout the land...)

The Schwartz Gallery:

I'm not allowed to post photos of the awesome fun we'd had in classes, but here are some random photos of your teacher and her family...

Here I am with my Jane Austen action figure.  Yes, I am a nerd.  (But Jane's got amazing satirical action!  Her favorite weapon is scathing character study, according to the packaging.  Plus, she comes with pen and writing desk.)  Nerd pride!

My sister took this picture!

My daughter:

Yes, she's a book worm.  She loves to read.  What else could you expect?

Finally, your teacher when she was young and tiny, too:

How awesome was I? Huh? HUH? I've got one high-heel, two snowmen, a kiss the cook botton, and an awesome 80s lacey dress.  I was so cool when I was two!
