My Background

My family immigrated from Viet Nam to the United States when I was less than 5 years old.  We were part of the original boat people and had to escape in the dead of night for a better future. We lived for 5 years in New Orleans, LA before moving to Sacramento, CA.  I spent the rest of my pre-college years in Sacramento and graduated with honors from Florin High School.  I attended the University of California, San Diego where I received a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and a Master's Degree in Teaching and Curriculum Design.  During my college years, I was fortunate enough to study abroad for 1 year in England at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

My Teaching Philosophy

I continue to grow as a teacher.  My goals for my students at Diegueño are three-fold.   I will consider my job well-done if:

1- My students become self-motivated critical thinkers who have the ability to form their own hypothesis based on the available evidence

2- My students understand and practice the concept of "Agreeing to Disagree".  In our complex society, I want my students to appreciate others' views yet decide for themselves what is best.

3- My students enjoy learning and willing to challenge themselves in the quest for learning. Learning should be done with a sense of fun & adventure. Students should not depend on a grade or score to validate the knowledge acquired.
